Faced with growing environmental challenges, Ed Begley, Jr. exemplifies personal action by championing sustainability in Hollywood, serving on environmental boards, earning numerous accolades, and living in an eco-friendly home near Los Angeles.
As environmental issues become more pressing, there are two possible responses: forget it and hope that government and corporations will figure it out, or take action yourself.
In the “take action yourself” camp, a few individuals are leading the way. One such person in California is Ed Begley, Jr.
Turning up at Hollywood events on his bicycle, Ed has been considered an environmental leader in the Hollywood community for many years. He serves on the boards of The Coalition For Clean Air, and The Thoreau Institute.
His work in the environmental community has earned him a number of awards from some of the most prestigious environmental groups in the nation, including the California League of Conservation Voters, the Natural Resources Defense Council, The Coalition for Clean Air, Heal the Bay, Santa Monica Baykeeper, and the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation.
He currently lives near Los Angeles in a LEED Platinum home, rides his bike and takes public transportation.

Wawa Gatheru

Black Girl Environmentalist
Wawa Gatheru is a GenZ climate activist and Rhodes Scholar passionate about cultivating a climate movement that is made in the image of all of us.
She is the founder and Executive Director of Black Girl Environmentalist, the only national organization dedicated to addressing the pipeline and pathway issue for Black girls, women, and gender expansive individuals in the climate sector. Under her leadership, BGE has grown as a trusted, national organization that has worked with 80 corporate and non-profit partners and hosted 120+ events across 12 HUB cities. In the summer of 2024, BGE launched the Hazel M. Johnson Fellowship Program – the first climate pipeline program created for and by GenZ of color. With a membership of over 2,000, Forbes has called Black Girl Environmentalist “one of the largest Black youth-led organizations in the country”.
Outside of her role at BGE, Wawa sits on boards and advisory councils for the Environmental Media Association, Climate Power, Brian Eno’s Earth / Percent, Sound Future, National Parks Conservation Association, and EarthJustice. Wawa is also an inaugural member of the National Environmental Youth Advisory Council of the US EPA – the first federal youth-led advisory council in US history. In her role, Wawa advises Administrator Reagan on how to increase the effectiveness of the EPA’s efforts to address a range of environmental issues impacting youth.
For her work, Wawa has been recognized as a Glamour College Woman of the Year, a L’Oreal Paris Woman of Worth, a Climate Creator to Watch by Harvard, and has been named to several notable lists – including Forbes 30 under 30, Ebony Power 100, the Independent’s Climate 100, Grist 50, and AFROTECH Future 50 – and is an established public speaker who has presented at Harvard University, The Washington Post Summit, the New York Times Climate Forward, and conferences around the world. She most recently featured on the January 2023 digital cover of Vogue alongside Billie Eilish and 7 other climate activists.

James Tarone

Francis D’Hondt

In his 11+ years at IPG, Francis has run addressable campaigns across verticals including retail, CPG, financial services, entertainment, and more. Martin Bryan

Martin Bryan is the Global Chief Sustainability Officer of IPG Mediabrands, overseeing the development of the holding company processes and products enabling the influential media network to drive sustainability via the five-point climate action plan and strategy he launched for the group.
A graduate of the Yale School of Management’s Sustainability in Business Executive Education program, he is a passionate, proactive, and organized champion of corporate efforts to give back and better our clients, people, environment, and world. Some practice highlights include launching the industry’s first Climate Action Marketplace, enabling seamless sustainable media activation in programmatic, reducing emissions by 31% in the USA in year one. Additionally, he developed and launched the industry’s first Climate Action Accelerator Program which is designed to provide climate solutions for media vendors and clients alike, such as renewable energy, measurement and climate research – at a discount.
Prior to developing and leading the global Sustainability practice, Martin joined the agency in 2011 and led the strategy practice of the J&J business since 2018 after returning from a yearlong sabbatical in which he traveled the world with his partner – at times volunteering on regenerative, organic farms.
He is the media working group co-chair of Ad Net Zero, the industry organization focused on driving climate action and developing an industry standard for emission measurement in media, and is a Climate Advocate Lobby Volunteer with the Citizens’ Climate Lobby – working to drive climate action legislation in the U.S. Martin lives in Morristown, NJ with his partner, two dogs, chickens and is an avid gardener and a Cornell University-certified master beekeeper.

Adam is based in New York and leads on communications, media, and engagement across Climate Group’s work in North America. This includes overseeing communications for their sustainability initiatives, government engagement, and core activations such as the US Climate Action Summit and Climate Week NYC.
Prior to this Adam served as Head of Climate Week at Climate Group, leading Climate Week NYC for six -years with oversight of brand, development, content, communications, and partnerships. This role involved growing Climate Week NYC to become the largest climate event of its kind, negotiating a range of partnerships with NYC, the media, and NGOs, working closely with international partners to ensure its integration as a major moment on the climate calendar.
In previous roles, Adam served as Head of Communications for the International Rescue Committee, Head of Communications for UK poverty charity Turn2us, advisor to the Press Complaints Commission media regulatory body, communications lead in UK Parliament, and as a freelance writer and editor for various publications.
